Rolex Forums - Rolex Watch Forum > Rolex & Tudor Watch Topics > Vintage Rolex Discussion: Any problems with this 1601? You could get a 1603 dial or 1600 dial which will work in theory. Post a pic of the current dial. There are some more collectible ones out there so we can advise if you should replace or not - putting aside personal preference. Rolex stopped making parts for that movement and watch. While it’s true most any watchmaker including the RSC can clean and service that watch if it doesn’t need any parts, the chances are pretty good it will need parts unless it has been serviced recently.
Service the movement and/or replace any (preferably with genuine Rolex) parts, if necessary. *Retighten the loose Jubilee bracelet, resize it to my wrist-size. Polish or replace the crystal and cyclops. Keep the exterior case as-is. I know it can be done (i.e. using a pie-pan dial with a ETA 2836-2 clone movement, 16200 Raffles case and Raffles hands) as is demonstrated in the picture below (not my picture) and explained by the builder in the Reddit post in the link in my opening post. I’d put a new crystal and leave the dial as is. It probably doesn’t need a new dial, just a new crystal. Movement service with all gaskets, new crystal, slight polish to remove some of the surface scratches and tidy it up a bit. The dial is your call, I would leave it. I looked between the lugs and the numbers reads that it is a rolex ref. 1601. Then looked for the Serial numbers and I found out that it was produced in 1978. But the thing is that the dial is a replacement dial, like the seller said.
